Act One: “Kindness”
Actors Help Kickoff School Year for Low-Income Children:
Energetic volunteers from Actor’s Community, a non-profit organization established by actors, donated many new school supplies to help 25 low-income children at Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women and Children.
There were nearly 50 children, moms, and guests in attendance. Patina Group Restaurants catered and served a delicious southwest dinner and surprised the children with chocolate coated ice-cream cones.
The children played trivia games to win school supplies and went “shopping” to fill up their new backpacks with pencils, notebooks, and many other school supplies.
Psychologist Sam Girguis from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) also announced the 2007/2008 kickoff of family and individual counseling services that will be offered once again this year. CHLA has successfully improved the well-being of our residents for nearly 4 years by providing warm and encouraging services here at Good Shepherd Center.
The mission of Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women & Children is to provide, with dignity and love, a continuum of care from homelessness to self-sufficiency for women and their children, through services offered by our professional and volunteer staff.
Since 1984, under the leadership of Sister Julia Mary Farley, Good Shepherd Center has provided food, clothing, shelter and supportive services for homeless women and children. From mobile outreach to transitional shelter to long-term housing for mothers with disabilities, help is available every step of the way.
Today, Good Shepherd Center serves more than 900 women and children every year through our comprehensive programs, providing long-term solutions to poverty and homelessness.
