Drop-in Services- Since 1984, Languille has opened its doors and offered a warm shower, a nutritious meal, clean clothing, laundry facilities and a place to rest for the women living on the streets. Beginning in January 2012, women utilizing our drop-in services now have the opportunity to go through an intake process and receive referrals for housing, health care and other social services. Good Shepherd Center has taken one more step toward ending the cycle of homelessness.
Food Pantry-A food pantry has been added to provide supplemental food to women and children receiving services through Good Shepherd Center. We are especially in need of proteins (canned tuna, ham, spam, & chicken), coffee, sugar and other baking essentials. We gladly accept refrigerated foods as well. Please call the shelter to make arrangements to drop off your food donation.
Languille Receives a Face Lift
Renovations have been the priority at Hawkes Transitional Residence and Languille Emergency Shelter this summer. After being open for twenty seven years, Languille finally closed long enough to receive some much needed repairs. The result has been new floors, plumbing, beds and bedding, a fresh paint job and a security system. We have reopened and are in better shape to accept the homeless women that come to our doors looking for shelter and a safe place to call home for a brief period of time. To schedule a tour please contact Annemarie or Susan at (213) 482-1834.

This summer, Hawkes Transitional Residence received a charitable makeover that resulted in 31 breathtaking works of art! Interior designer Vanessa De Vargas and interior design writer and editor Vanessa Kogevinas came to us with the idea to have a select group of some of Los Angeles's top interior designers donate their time to fully redecorating a room each to extraordinary levels of functionality and aesthetic quality.
Over thirty designers were there to welcome guests and to answer any questions they might have. More than 600 people from the community took advantage of this opportunity. They left in awe & appreciation at what a few people could do to transform a single bedroom into a living space anyone would be proud to call home. The rooms will be occupied by women who are transitioning from homelessness into permanent housing.
